New corporate partnership formed to help Dallas Public Library; Councilmember Ann Margolin is sponsoring the effort

Councilmember Ann MargolinCity Councilmember Ann Margolin, District 13, today announced the formation of Corporate Partners for the Dallas Public Library. “We are forming Corporate Partners for the Dallas Public Library to match the needs of the library with businesses that can benefit from a mutual partnership,” said Councilmember Margolin.  “This is not a fundraising effort; rather a group that will put our resources together to match the needs of the community.”

The partners group will be sponsored by Margolin, chair of the Council’s Arts, Culture and Libraries Committee, and Dallas City Manager Mary Suhm and chaired by Atmos Energy Director of Public Affairs Sandra Doyle.  Members of the team are Debbie Dennis, Oncor; Fran Phillips, Gardere Wynne Sewell; Mary Poss, Ebby Halliday; Holly Reed, AT&T; Bruce Bradford, North Dallas Chamber; and Paul Stafford of Carter Stafford and President, Dallas Bar Association.

“The Dallas Public Library’s services are critical to the Dallas community, especially during tough economic times,” said Suhm. “They are used by people of all ages for job searches, research, education, literacy and enjoyment.  This partnership is critical to the future success of the library in order to meet these needs.”

The inaugural meeting of the team was held on Oct. 2, culminating in the announcement of their first project, the Atmos Energy Literacy Center.  Atmos Energy will partner with Texas A&M University Commerce (TAMUC) and the Dallas Public Library to open the center in Spring 2013.  The Center will be located at the library’s West Dallas Branch on Singleton Blvd and TAMUC will coordinate teachers for English as a Second Language classes.

A ribbon cutting will be held Oct. 22 and Atmos Energy’s Big Tex cooker and employees will be on hand to feed 350 community representatives. “The Dallas Public Library has been a wonderful partner for Atmos Energy for many years,” said Doyle. “The Corporate Partners group is a way to let other corporations learn what types of opportunities are available and we are looking forward to many project partnerships being announced in the future.”
