Australian author Mem Fox has written over 40 books, and once again she has delivered a wonderful, imaginative story for children. The character of this book, Tell Me About Your Day Today, is a young boy who loves his bedtime routine, especially talking with his three stuffed-animal friends, Greedy Goose, Blue Horse, and Fat Rabbit.
After the boy is tucked into bed, each stuffed animal tells the boy the story of their day – the who, the what, the why, and the way their day turned out okay. During the day the stuffed animals had been scared or hurt, but everything turned out okay. The repetition of their stories was comforting to them so they each knew they were not alone.
Illustrator Lauren Stringer created bright, but simple, soft-looking pictures to help tell this soothing story. The author, Mem Fox, did not specifically state why the characters were scared or hurt during the day; however, the illustrator incorporated a thunderstorm as a visual cue for the reader to see why the boy and the stuffed animals felt scared.
After the stuffed-animal friends told the boy about their day, he also thought about his day and how it turned out okay. The boy and his friends were together and happy as they went to sleep.
Reading this book to children in your life may also be a reassuring way to help them make sense of crazy, scary days, and how they usually turn out okay.
