Book Review: The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart

Mysterious Benedict SocietyReynie Muldoon was prepared for his second test of the day with exactly one pencil and one eraser.  He had been told that if he brought an extra of either or arrived late, he would not be allowed to take the test.  Reynie really wanted to take the test, though he suspected the day would only get stranger as he went along.  Reynie was right.

Tests, mazes, tightropes and secret messages only scratch the surface of oddities and mysteries faced by Reynie and his cohorts in The Mysterious Benedict Society.  As four orphans are banded together by a narcoleptic leader, they struggle to discover whether they can trust him, each other or themselves as they work to uncover what exactly the “Emergency” is and whether they can save the world from its mastermind!

Fast-paced, funny and engaging, Trenton Lee Stewart’s book has not received accolades for nothing.  If you’re in the mood for a well-written mystery with some courageous kids, lots of twists and turns, and a great first installment in a series (and who isn’t, right?), this is a read for you!  This book is suitable for readers of all ages!

Next up in the series: The Mysterious Benedict Society and the Perilous Journey, The Mysterious Benedict Society and the Prisoner’s Dilemma, The Extraordinary Education of Nicholas Benedict.  Enjoy!
