Dallas West Branch Library hosted “Genealogy 101″ on Saturday, November 10th, 2012. Participants came to learn how to start searching their family history along with tips and tricks for searches. Many of the participants have been conducting their genealogy for a number of years but needed the expertise of Ari Wilkins to help them bridge the gap for some generations that they are missing.
Along with gaining an insight on family history, 2 pat
rons attending found out that their families grew a block apart in Laredo, Texas. They have joined forces to assist each other in learning more about their families and share pictures of the neighborhood that their families lived in. It was a solid 2 hour class on the importance of understanding your family history and the information that can be gained from learning about “who you are and where you came from.”
Participants have requested that Ari Wilkins return to the Dallas West Library in the new year to teach an “Advanced Genealogy” class. Thanks to all of the participants and the staff for making this such an enjoyable class for all.
Ms. Wilkins will be presenting another Genealogy 101 Workshop at the Kleberg-Rylie Branch Library on March 2, 2013 at 1:00 pm. For more information, please contact the Kleberg-Rylie Branch Library at 214-670-8471.
