I’m a regular user of the Dallas Morning News Historical Archive, but I need earlier dates for Dallas history that precede the existence of the Morning News. How can the library help?

Dallas Weekly HeraldIn the past, researchers had little choice but to use microfilm editions of earlier papers and various microfilm indexes. The library has now added a subscription to a new database, Genealogy Bank, which has a digitized, key word searchable Dallas Weekly Herald, 1855 to 1887 which overlaps perfectly with the digitized Dallas Morning News, 1885-1984. This does not include the Dallas Times Herald but it does expand the ability to search Dallas history remotely from the comfort of your home.

Dallas Public Library cardholders can access the information via our website by clicking on My Account on the blue navigation bar and then logging in with your 14 digit library card number and password.  Once you are logged in, click on the Databases link in the blue navigation bar and then select Newsbank Online Services.
