A Tour of the Universe

The City Lights Astronomical Society for Students (C.L.A.S.S.) will present "A Tour of the Universe", a general astronomy presentation that starts at the center of the solar system, moves through the Milky Way galaxy, and then goes to the end of the known universe. Questions are gladly accepted at the end of the program.

Introduction to Handwriting Analysis

Come join us for a fun evening of Handwriting Analysis with Kathryn Nordstrom of MysticKathryn. Handwriting Analysis and Graphology are unique fields of study that allow insights into psychology and human behavior. Have you ever wondered what a President's handwriting has to say about who we have elected as our President? Do the some of the actors in Twilight have personailty traits of their characters? Learn about how handwriting analysis is used in the criminal justice field to help solve crimes. Participants are asked to create a sample of their own writing before the presentation begins, so they have an unbiased sample to examine, as they learn different nuances that can be seen, and analyzed in their own writing. Some participants may have the chance to have Kathryn analyze their sample. Students will get a chance to analyze their own and/or friend's handwriting.This program illuminates the basics of handwriting analysis, its history, and why handwriting analysis is endangered study.The program is appropriate for ages 10 and up.

Library Live! Summer Fun Fest with Jennifer Kindert

Celebrate one of Japan's oldest and most beloved summer festivals, the TanabataMatsuri. Tanabata means "Evening of the Seventh"(of July) and Matsuri means "festival" in Japanese.
Enjoy activities that revolve around astronomy as you listen to ancient Japanese and Chinese mythological legends about the Altair and Vega star constellation and the Milky Way galaxy.
After a brief introduction to Japanese culture, vocabulary and last but not least: a taste of Japanese food, have fun creating TanabataMatsuri decorations!
