Gardening for Butterflies

The Lakewood Library Friends invite you to hear Roseann Ferguson, master gardener and longtime volunteer with Texas Discovery Gardens, speak on how home gardeners can landscape with plants that attract butterflies. Learn which plants meet the particular needs of monarch butterflies on their spring migration through North Texas from Mexico to Canada.
Ferguson, who is retired from a full career as a teacher, also has tips on how to adapt gardening to the age and needs of most gardeners.
Doors will open at 1:30pm for the 2pm program.


AARP Tax-Aide

When: Thursday, February 18, 2016 - 12:00 PM
Where: Lakewood Branch Library (in the Auditorium)

Dallas Public Library will partner with AARP Tax-Aide to offer free, in-person tax assistance through trained volunteers. Assistance is geared toward people with low-to-moderate income, persons with disabilities, the elderly and limited English speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns. People interested in receiving assistance should bring W-2's, last year's tax return, Social Security cards for all dependents, and photo I.D. Space is limited. If you are 14 or older and interested in becoming a Dallas Public Library volunteer, please attend this orientation session to learn more about our opportunities and fill out an application.

All court ordered community service volunteers must call The Volunteer Center of North Texas at 214-821-8711 ext.410 to register for and complete orientation before volunteering for the Dallas Public Library.

Float your Boat! We will work together to build a boat out of aluminum foil that will hold pennies and float. This STEM activity will help develop skills such as resilience, confidence, and critical thinking.
