General Search and Browse Instructions: A single word or phrase may be entered in any of the search term boxes. Do not use quotation marks to enclose the search terms, but punctuation such as commas and periods may be entered if they are part of the phrase. Also, note that this tool provides a string search rather than a word search. So, if you enter "oil map" you will also see items with "soil map." Likewise, a search for "tex" could find "Texas" and "Texarkana" as well as the town of "Latex."

On the search page, to see all the maps in the collection, enter "%" (without the quotes) as the search string, and leave the Limit by Date fields blank.

Limiting by Date (search page and browse page): Enter a single beginning year to locate maps for only that year. To find all maps prior to a certain year, enter that year as the ending year, and enter 1000 (or any year earlier than 1500) as the beginning year.
