About the program
Every Child Ready to Read is a national program through the Public Library Association and the Association of Library Services to Children. In spring 2008, the Dallas Public Library joined in partnership with Mayor Tom Leppert and arts and literacy organizations, like KERA and Thriving Minds, to launch Every Child Ready to Read @ Dallas. The Dallas program is a city-wide early literacy program aimed to encourage parents to partake in book sharing with their children, encourage parents to engage in literacy-based activities with their children, spread awareness of the importance of early literacy skills in the community, and be a resource on early literacy to the community.
