The Haggadah. Illustrated by Arthur Szyk. Edited and with an introduction by Cecil Roth. London: Beaconsfield Press, 1939.

Gift of Mrs. Henry Yeager and the Friends of the Dallas Public Library, Inc.

This striking Haggadah is the work of American artist Arthur Szyk, who has been called the "greatest illuminator since the sixteenth century." Using medieval techniques and pictorial motifs translated into a modern illustration style, Szyk’s painting and Hebrew calligraphy integrate into a festive celebration of Jewish tradition. This volume, from a limited edition printed on calfskin vellum, was bound by the noted English firm of Sangorski & Sutcliffe.
