Genealogy Home

The Genealogy Section of the Dallas Public Library contains one of the largest and most comprehensive collections for family history research in the Southwest. Over 50,000 individuals visit annually, with many traveling from out of state to utilize the collection which includes all states and counties of the United States. Resources for many foreign countries are also available.

The collection includes:

  • 111,700 volumes
  • 64,500 rolls of microfilm
  • 89,000 microfiche
  • 700 maps and charts

Copying options

The ST200 copier can scan books and
microforms to flash drive, CD, or printer.

There are five microfilm/microfiche copiers and two photocopiers in the Genealogy Section. There are also two ST200 copiers which can scan books, microfilm, microfiche, or microcards to a USB flash drive, CD, or to a printer.

Standard/legal size $0.15 per page
11 x 17 size $0.25 per page

Microfilm, microfiche copies    $0.25 per page

Computer printouts $0.25 per page

Copy cards

Prepaid copy cards are available at the Genealogy service desk in the amount of $1.00, $2.00, $5.00, $10.00 or $20.00. Copy cards may be re-charged with additional credit. The Genealogy photocopy machines use only copy cards for payment of copy charges. The copy card can also be used in all microfilm/microfiche and photocopy machines in the library except the ST200. Computer and ST200 printouts are paid for at the Genealogy Reference desk.

The Genealogy Section accepts cash, checks, and credit cards ($5.00 minimum for credit card purchases) in payment for copy cards and computer printouts.

Visitors are asked to sign in at the Dallas Genealogy Society desk upon entering the genealogy area.
