This collection was established in 1930 as a Texas State Depository Library. Materials from Texas state agencies ranging from the Agriculture Department to the Bureau of Economic Analysis make this a most comprehensive collection. Other publications include the Attorney General Opinions, General and Special Laws of Texas, Texas Administrative Code and Texas Education Agency publications. Documents are organized by the Texas Documents Classification scheme.
Many State documents can be located using the Library's online catalog. Other agency documents can be located using the TRAIL system online.
Dallas Public Library houses bill files back to the 63rd legislature, which are received weekly, whenever the legislature is in session. For bills prior to 63rd legislature, please refer to the Texas State Library & Archives. Those researching legislative intent, may find it helpful to refer to the Legislative Reference Library of Texas.
Through the Texas State Library, Dallas Public Library patrons are provided access to a collection of 50 commercially licensed, full text databases known as the Texas State Electronic Library. The Library also participates in the Texshare program, which enables citizens of Dallas to check out books from participating libraries in surrounding communities, subject to local guidelines and restrictions.
