Grandparents and Other Relatives Raising Children

WELCOME to the Dallas County KinCare Network a parent volunteer group to the City of Dallas Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Program. Our mission is to assist grandparents and other relatives raising children to ensure access to needed services and support. We strongly support grandparent-headed families in order that they may secure a promising future for their grandchildren. The growing number of grandparents raising grandchildren is a social phenomenon not limited to any particular ethnic group, geographical location, or economic circumstance. Grandparents and other relatives may find themselves raising children for many reasons: substance abuse, mental illness, death, divorce, child abuse, loss of employment, military service, incarceration and health issues.

In Texas, there are 450,000 or 7.6% of all children under age 18 live in grandparent-headed households. Another 150,000 live in homes headed by relatives other than grandparents.

In Dallas, there are 64,000 grandparent-headed households in Dallas County.

Identifying financial, social, health and legal resources can be confusing, time consuming and difficult. This website is designed to help you locate resources and understand your options.
