In 2004, the Dallas County KinCare Network began with a grant from the New York Life Foundation through AARP. Committed to the work of the network for grandparents, the City of Dallas Office of Senior Affairs provided a liaison position in 2005. This position provided the necessary leadership to expand the program and activities to assist grandparents raising grandchildren by:
Establishing a Grandparent's Warmline
Providing case management, information and referral assistance
Training professionals who serve grandparents and other relatives raising children
Developing Grandparents Resource Collections with the Dallas Public Library in 26 libraries in the city of Dallas
Developing "Legal Workshop 2005" led by Family Law Attorneys resolving concerns with custody, legal documentation, using correct legal terminology (conservatorship vs guardianship) and grandparent's rights
University of North Texas - Dallas sponsored "Toy Drive"
Grandparents "Holiday Celebration"
Betty Ford Center sponsored training for grandparents facilitating curriculum-based support groups
Developing Grandparents Support Groups throughout the city of Dallas
