About Us

In 2004, the Dallas County KinCare Network began with a grant from the New York Life Foundation through AARP. Committed to the work of the network for grandparents, the City of Dallas Office of Senior Affairs provided a liaison position in 2005. This position provided the necessary leadership to expand the program and activities to assist grandparents raising grandchildren by:

  • Establishing a Grandparent's Warmline

  • Providing case management, information and referral assistance

  • Training professionals who serve grandparents and other relatives raising children

  • Developing Grandparents Resource Collections with the Dallas Public Library in 26 libraries in the city of Dallas

  • Developing "Legal Workshop 2005" led by Family Law Attorneys resolving concerns with custody, legal documentation, using correct legal terminology (conservatorship vs guardianship) and grandparent's rights

  • University of North Texas - Dallas sponsored "Toy Drive"

  • Grandparents "Holiday Celebration"

  • Betty Ford Center sponsored training for grandparents facilitating curriculum-based support groups

  • Developing Grandparents Support Groups throughout the city of Dallas
