About the Coalition

Mission
Unify literacy stakeholders to coordinate resources, build awareness, and promote literacy in order for residents of Dallas to compete in the 21st century.


Vision
Promote access to quality resources to increase literacy rates for all residents of Greater Dallas.


Need

  • 1 in 5 people live in poverty every day in Dallas County (U.S. Census 2010)

  • Nearly 500,000 adults living in Greater Dallas area do not have basic literacy skills
    (National Assessment of Adult Literacy, 2003)

  • 2 out of 5 people speak a language other than English at home in Dallas County (U.S. Census 2010)

  • 1 in 4 adults in Dallas County do not have a high school diploma or equivalent (U.S. Census 2010)

We Serve
Dallas County, Denton County, Collin County, Rockwall County, Kaufman County and Ellis County.
