Historical Background
The Dallas Sunshine Club was created October 17, 1918 by the Dallas Federation of Women's Clubs. The group's main purpose was humanitarianism in scope: to "take sunshine into the greatest possible number of homes and hearts." The group practiced its philanthropy on an individual as well as a grand scale by donating money and time to a variety of worthy causes. Members of the club loaned out wheelchairs to those who needed them, visited hospitals with fruit and gifts for the ill and worked with a variety of schools, orphanages, hospitals and other groups to further their altruistic aims.

Scope and Contents
The collection consists of seven series. The series are 1. Charter and By-laws 2. Minutes and Financial Statements 3. Committee and Recording Secretary Reports 4. Correspondence 6. Miscellaneous Club Records 6. Yearbooks 7. Clippings and Pamphlets and 8. Scrapbooks and Ledgers.
The bulk of the collection consists of minutes, committee reports and correspondence. Under the minutes and financial statements series, the club organization, leadership, and structure are recorded and cover a date range of 1918 to 1976. The committee reports document the various philanthropy operations conducted by the group over the sixty years of material. The correspondence series predominantly consist of groups and individuals with whom the Dallas Sunshine Club had worked. Quite a bit of the correspondence are thank you notes acknowledging the club's efforts.
