Abstract: The scrapbook was donated in 2003 and contains various materials collected throughout the individual's life, particularly his years in college and the beginning of his professional career. This collection might be most useful in shedding light on the life of a young professional male in Dallas. No photocopying of the collection is allowed.

Biographical Note

Asa Edward Allen was born in Kosse, Texas on 30 September 1887 to parents Edward Allen and Ella Taylor Allen, both from Alabama. Asa Allen attended the University of Texas at Austin from approximately 1905 to 1909, after which time he obtained employment from the General Electric Company in Dallas. He held various positions at GE, including salesman and clerk, but for most of his tenure he was an electrical engineer. He retired from GE around 1951 and held residence in Highland Park until his death on 22 October 1974.

Scope and Contents

The collection contains many railway stubs from different areas of the United States, professional and civil organization brochures, tuition receipts, membership cards, a picture, a Texas State Fair ticket, newspaper clippings, and a few other various items. The date of items in the collection run from 1905 to 1972, but the bulk dates are from 1906 to 1918.

The scrapbook was given to Texas/Dallas History with most of the pages ripped out and placed back in the scrapbook. The scrapbook page numbers given in this finding guide are likely not in their original order, but in the order they were found on donation and accession.
