Rejebian started her first club in 1936 and organized forty all together. She was born into an Armenian family in Bursa, Turkey, and survived both WWI and the persecution of Armenians in Turkey before immigrating to the United States at the age of fourteen. She soon learned the English language and became a sought after reviewer and interpreter of books. According to members, the "Rejebian Clubs" are unique because they have one reviewer who critiques the books instead of a discussion of the book by all its members.
