A Selection of New Acquisitions

Below are a few of the titles we have received recently at Texas/Dallas History & Archives.

-- Just Visitin’: Old Texas Jails, by Joan Upton Hall.

After a brief introduction to the topic of Texas jailhouses, this reference provides entries alphabetized by the city in which each subject jail is located. Most entries have one or two pictures of the jail building accompanying a brief history of the jail. Tour availability, hours of operation, and contact information are provided at the end of each entry.

-- Brothers: The Hidden History of the Kennedy Years, by David Talbot.

In this new book author Talbot, founder of the online magazine Salon.com, explores the relationship between John F. and Robert Kennedy. The book focuses on the effect the 1963 assassination in Dallas had on Robert Kennedy. After retelling the events of the tragic afternoon of November 22, 1963, Talbot looks back to the conflicts and struggles the Kennedy administration had experienced with national security organizations, then covers Robert Kennedy’s efforts to learn the truth about his brother’s murder.

-- Reclaiming History: The Assassination of President John F. Kennedy, by Vincent Bugliosi.

Bugliosi, who also wrote Helter Skelter, devotes 1,500 pages to the results of two decades of research into the Kennedy assassination, and the work is accompanied by a compact disc with another 1,000 pages of endnotes. In this extensive work that attempts to document nearly everything of note known about the assassination, Bugliosi claims to explore and put to rest all conspiracy theories that have been set out to date.
